What Is a Bitcoin SIP Calculator?

A Bitcoin SIP calculator is a free planning tool that estimates what a fixed, recurring investment in Bitcoin could grow into over time, shown entirely in Indian Rupees. Just like a mutual fund SIP calculator applies rupee-cost averaging to equity funds, this crypto SIP calculator INR applies the same monthly-investment logic to Bitcoin — except it also accounts for the fact that Bitcoin's price can move 5–10% in a single day, something a typical mutual fund never does.

This tool goes a step further than most calculators you will find online. Instead of only projecting a hypothetical future return, it also lets you run a real historical backtest: pick a start year, and see what your SIP would actually have been worth today, using real BTC/INR price benchmarks rather than a made-up growth rate.

How Does This BTC SIP Calculator India Work?

The calculator has two modes, and both are built around the same core SIP mathematics used across every calculator on Invest Know.

1. Future Projection Mode

You enter a monthly amount, a duration in years, and an expected annual return. The calculator converts your annual return into an effective monthly rate and compounds every instalment forward using the standard SIP future value formula:

FV = P × [ ((1+i)n − 1) / i ] × (1+i), where P is the monthly amount, i is the monthly rate, and n is the number of months.

You can type any assumption you like, or use the built-in presets (15% conservative, 30% moderate, 50% aggressive), or click "Use real 3-yr BTC CAGR" to auto-fill the field with Bitcoin's actual trailing three-year compound annual growth rate, calculated live from the historical price table below.

2. Real Historical Backtest Mode

You choose a start year from 2014 onward and a monthly SIP amount. The calculator then walks month-by-month from that date to today, working out how many satoshis/BTC your fixed rupee amount would have bought each month at the interpolated historical price, adds them all up, and multiplies the total Bitcoin accumulated by today's live BTC/INR price to show the current value. It also calculates an annualised XIRR using the actual cash-flow dates, not a simplified average — the same method banks and mutual fund platforms use to report real investor returns.

Live Bitcoin Price and Why It Matters for This Calculator

The ticker at the top of this page pulls Bitcoin's live price in real time from public market data feeds and converts it to INR using the live USD/INR exchange rate, refreshing automatically. If the live feed is temporarily unreachable (which can happen with any third-party API), the calculator falls back to the most recently cached price so the tool never stops working — you will see a clear "cached" label whenever that happens.

As of 28 August 2026, Bitcoin was trading at approximately ₹77.86 lakh (around $77,600), after a sharp mid-2026 recovery from the ₹61 lakh level seen in July 2026 — a reminder of just how quickly Bitcoin's INR price can move in either direction within a matter of weeks.

Real Historical Performance of Bitcoin in India (BTC/INR)

Rather than assume a smooth growth curve, it helps to look at what Bitcoin's INR price has actually done, year by year. This is the same benchmark data this calculator's backtest mode uses:

Year-EndBTC/INR (approx.)BTC/USD (approx.)
2013₹46,544$700
2014₹20,138$300
2015₹28,514$430
2016₹65,390$980
2017₹9.34 lakh$14,000
2018₹2.60 lakh$3,900
2019₹5.14 lakh$7,700
2020₹21.17 lakh$31,800
2021₹34.56 lakh$51,900
2022₹13.72 lakh$20,600
2023₹35.08 lakh$52,600
2024₹79.85 lakh$119,500
2025₹78.84 lakh$118,400
2026 (28 Aug, live)₹77.86 lakh$77,645

Notice the pattern: a brutal 72% fall through 2018, a strong 2020–2021 bull run, another sharp 2022 correction, a record high above $126,000 in October 2025, and a bumpy 2026. This is exactly why SIP — spreading purchases across many months instead of investing a lump sum at one price — is the approach most planners recommend for an asset this volatile, and it's why this calculator's backtest is built on real yearly data instead of a single assumed growth rate.

Why SIP Instead of a Bitcoin Lump Sum?

A lump-sum Bitcoin purchase locks your entire investment into a single day's price. If that day happens to be near a local peak (as many investors discovered in November 2021 or October 2025), the paper loss can be steep and can take years to recover from. A SIP spreads your purchases across dozens of price points — some high, some low — so your average cost tends to smooth out over time. It will not guarantee a profit, and it will not protect you in a prolonged downtrend, but it removes the pressure of trying to "time" an asset that even professional traders struggle to predict.

Bitcoin Investment Tax Rules in India (2026)

Any Bitcoin SIP plan in India has to be read alongside how gains are actually taxed. As of the current financial year:

Flat 30% tax under Section 115BBH: Profit from selling, swapping or spending Bitcoin is taxed at a flat 30% (plus applicable surcharge and cess), regardless of how long you held it. There is no separate short-term or long-term capital gains slab for Virtual Digital Assets (VDAs) the way there is for equities.

1% TDS under Section 194S: Exchanges deduct 1% tax at source on crypto transfers once your cumulative transaction value crosses the specified annual threshold (₹50,000 for most individuals, ₹10,000 for certain specified persons). If you trade peer-to-peer or on an international platform, this deduction and deposit responsibility can fall on you.

No loss set-off: Losses from one crypto asset cannot be adjusted against gains from another crypto asset, and crypto losses cannot be set off against any other head of income (salary, rent, equity gains, etc.), nor carried forward to future years.

Gifts and mining: Bitcoin received as a gift worth over ₹50,000 is taxable in the recipient's hands at slab rates (gifts from specified close relatives are exempt). Mined Bitcoin is taxed at slab rates when received, and again at 30% on any further gain when sold.

You must report every VDA transaction under Schedule VDA in your Income Tax Return. This calculator does not calculate tax for you — please consult a qualified chartered accountant for your specific filing, since actual tax liability depends on your full financial picture and current rules in force at the time you file.

Is a Bitcoin SIP Legal and Regulated in India? RBI & SEBI Position

Buying and holding Bitcoin is legal in India. The Reserve Bank of India's 2018 banking-channel restriction on crypto was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2020, and Indian exchanges have operated within India's KYC and anti-money-laundering framework since. However, Bitcoin is not legal tender — it cannot be used to settle debts or pay taxes the way the Rupee can.

RBI's stance: The RBI continues to describe cryptocurrencies as posing financial-stability risks and has focused its own efforts on the Digital Rupee (e-Rupee), its central bank digital currency, which had crossed 150 million transactions by 2026. RBI does not supervise or insure crypto exchanges or wallets the way it does banks.

SEBI's role: SEBI does not currently regulate cryptocurrency exchanges as stock exchanges, and Bitcoin is not classified as a "security" under Indian law. A parliamentary panel has urged the government to bring in a phased regulatory framework — potentially under RBI or SEBI — but as of 2026 this remains a proposal, not an enacted law.

In short: crypto in India today is regulated mainly through tax law (Section 115BBH, 194S) and anti-money-laundering registration (FIU-IND), not through a dedicated investor-protection regulator. There is no SEBI-style grievance redressal or investor compensation fund if an exchange fails.

Risks You Must Understand Before Starting a Crypto SIP

This calculator is an educational planning tool, not investment advice, and Bitcoin carries risks that are materially different from mutual funds, PPF or fixed deposits:

Extreme volatility: 30–70% drawdowns have happened multiple times in Bitcoin's history, sometimes within a single year.

No intrinsic cash flow: Unlike equity (backed by company earnings) or a bond (backed by a repayment promise), Bitcoin generates no dividend, interest or rent — its price is driven entirely by what other buyers are willing to pay.

Regulatory uncertainty: Future government or RBI policy changes could affect how crypto is taxed, traded or held in India.

Exchange and custody risk: If an exchange is hacked, mismanaged or shut down, recovering your funds may be difficult, since there is no SEBI-style investor protection fund for crypto.

No loss set-off: As covered above, crypto losses give you no tax relief, unlike losses in most other asset classes.

Because of these factors, most financial planners suggest treating Bitcoin as a small satellite allocation within a diversified portfolio, not a core holding, and investing only money you can afford to see fall sharply in value.

How to Start a Bitcoin SIP in India — Step by Step

1. Complete KYC on a SEBI/FIU-registered Indian crypto exchange using your PAN and Aadhaar.

2. Decide your monthly amount using the Future Projection tab above, keeping it to a small percentage of your total monthly investments.

3. Most Indian exchanges offer an automated recurring-buy feature — set it to purchase Bitcoin on a fixed date every month so you don't have to time the market manually.

4. Keep records of every buy/sell transaction (date, amount, price) for accurate tax filing under Schedule VDA.

5. Review your allocation periodically, and use the Real Historical Backtest tab here to understand how past SIPs of similar duration actually performed, both in gains and in drawdowns.
