SIP Calculator – Monthly, Daily, Lump Sum & Step-Up SIP Calculator with Inflation

One well-organised SIP calculator that replaces six separate tools: a plain monthly SIP calculator, a daily SIP calculator, a lump sum SIP calculator, a SIP calculator with step-up, and a full SIP calculator with step-up and inflation — switch modes below instead of hunting for a different page.

10-yr Nifty 50 TRI CAGR is ~13.4%; long-term range is broadly 12–14%. Not a guarantee.

Inflation Adjustment (optional)
Compounding convention: growth is calculated on a monthly-compounding basis (annual rate ÷ 12), the same convention used by most Indian SIP calculators. The "Annualised XIRR" figure is a true internal-rate-of-return on your actual cash flows, not a simple average.

What Is a SIP Calculator?

A SIP calculator (Systematic Investment Plan calculator) estimates how much a series of fixed, recurring investments — usually monthly, but sometimes daily — can grow into over time, given an assumed annual rate of return. It is also searched as a mutual fund SIP calculator, SIP return calculator, or SIP growth calculator, and all of these point to the same underlying maths.

This page merges every common variant into a single, well-organised tool: a plain monthly SIP calculator, a daily SIP calculator, a one-time lump sum SIP calculator, a SIP calculator with step-up (where your instalment rises every year), and the full SIP calculator with step-up and inflation that also shows your corpus in today's purchasing power. A combined "LumpSum SIP Calculator with Inflation" mode lets you model an initial lump sum plus an ongoing SIP together — useful if you're investing a bonus or maturity amount and continuing a monthly SIP alongside it.

How This Calculator Works

Monthly & Daily SIP (Step-Up Included)

Each instalment is compounded forward using the standard future-value-of-an-annuity formula: FV = P × [((1+i)n − 1) / i] × (1+i) for contributions at the start of a period, where P is the instalment, i is the periodic rate (annual rate ÷ 12 for monthly, ÷ 365 for daily) and n is the number of periods. When you turn on step-up, P itself increases every year — either by a flat percentage, or by a custom year-by-year schedule you define — and the calculator re-runs the compounding period-by-period so each year's higher instalment is compounded for exactly the time it has left.

Lump Sum

A single investment is compounded on the same monthly basis: your one-time amount grows every month at (annual rate ÷ 12), which is a slightly more favourable convention than plain annual compounding and matches how most Indian retail calculators present lump sum growth.

Inflation Adjustment

When enabled, the calculator divides your nominal future value by (1 + inflation rate)years to show the real value — what your corpus can actually buy in today's rupees, not just its number on a statement.

Annualised XIRR

Rather than a rough average, this tool computes a true Extended Internal Rate of Return (XIRR) on your exact cash-flow dates — the same method mutual fund platforms and banks use to report actual investor returns — so the annualised percentage you see reflects the real timing of every instalment, not just a simplified formula.

Monthly SIP vs Daily SIP vs Lump Sum vs Step-Up SIP — Which Should You Choose?

Monthly SIP is the most common and the easiest to automate through a bank mandate, aligning naturally with a monthly salary cycle.

Daily SIP spreads the same effective monthly amount across every trading day, which can marginally smooth entry price further in a volatile month, though the long-run difference versus monthly SIP is usually small once you look past 5–7 years.

Lump sum investing puts your full amount to work from day one, which can outperform in a rising market but concentrates all your timing risk into a single entry point.

Step-up SIP is designed for investors whose income grows over time: by increasing your instalment every year (even by a modest 10%), a step-up SIP can build a meaningfully larger corpus than a flat SIP of the same starting amount, without feeling like a bigger commitment upfront. Adding inflation adjustment on top keeps you honest about what that larger number will actually be worth by the time you need it.

Real Historical Benchmark: Nifty 50 SIP Returns

Rather than picking an arbitrary "expected return," it helps to see what a broad Indian equity index has actually delivered on a Total Return Index (TRI) basis:

PeriodNifty 50 TRI CAGR (approx.)
10-Year~13.4%
20-Year~12.4%
Long-term rangeBroadly 12%–14%

These figures include dividends reinvested (TRI) and are a common reference point for equity mutual fund SIP planning — but they are historical, not promised. A fund's actual return also depends on its category, expense ratio and fund manager, which is why this calculator lets you test conservative, moderate and aggressive scenarios rather than anchoring to one number.

For comparison, safer government-backed instruments currently yield less: the PPF rate is 7.1% p.a. for the current quarter, and the RBI repo rate stands at 5.25% (August 2026 policy), which broadly anchors bank FD and debt-fund yields. Equity SIPs aim for higher long-term growth in exchange for taking on market risk that these fixed-income options don't carry.

Why Inflation-Adjustment Matters

India's retail inflation (CPI) was recorded at 4.45% in July 2026. If your SIP grows at 12% nominally while prices rise at 4.45% a year, your real annual growth in purchasing power is closer to 7–7.5%, not 12%. This calculator's inflation toggle shows both numbers side by side so a large-looking final corpus doesn't create a false sense of security about what it can actually buy at retirement, for a child's education, or for any other long-term goal.

How Is SIP Investment Taxed in India?

SIP instalments in equity mutual funds are taxed unit-by-unit based on how long each instalment has been held, not on the SIP as a whole:

Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG): Units held for more than 12 months qualify as long-term. Gains are taxed at 12.5% on the amount exceeding a ₹1.25 lakh exemption per financial year (this exemption is shared across all your Section 112A long-term equity/equity-fund gains put together).

Short-Term Capital Gains (STCG): Units held for 12 months or less are taxed at a flat 20%, with no exemption threshold.

Because each SIP instalment has its own purchase date, a single redemption from a multi-year SIP is typically split into long-term and short-term tranches automatically by your fund house or broker using FIFO (first-in-first-out). This calculator does not calculate tax for you — please verify your specific liability with a qualified chartered accountant, especially around the ₹1.25 lakh exemption if you also hold direct equity shares.

Is SIP Investing Regulated in India? SEBI & AMFI

Yes — and this is one of the biggest differences between a mutual fund SIP and an unregulated asset like cryptocurrency. Mutual funds in India operate under the SEBI (Mutual Funds) Regulations, which were comprehensively updated and approved in December 2025, replacing the 1996 framework. The update unbundled the Total Expense Ratio into clearer components (base expense, brokerage, regulatory and statutory levies) and lowered cost caps on index funds and ETFs — changes that directly reduce what long-term SIP investors pay in fees.

Day-to-day distributor and industry practices are coordinated by AMFI (Association of Mutual Funds in India), and every investor must complete KYC (PAN, address and bank verification) before starting a SIP with any SEBI-registered Asset Management Company (AMC). This regulatory oversight — a dedicated securities regulator, standardised disclosure, and a formal grievance mechanism — is a meaningfully stronger investor-protection framework than exists for crypto assets in India today; if you want to compare the two directly, see our Bitcoin SIP Calculator, which runs the same kind of SIP maths on an unregulated, highly volatile asset using real historical BTC/INR data.

Risks and Realistic Expectations

Mutual fund SIPs are market-linked investments, not fixed-return products. Your actual return depends on the specific fund's performance, and can be negative over shorter windows, particularly during broad market corrections. Longer SIP durations (typically 10 years or more) have historically reduced the probability of a negative outcome, but they do not eliminate it, and past index performance is not a guarantee of future returns. This calculator is an educational planning tool, not investment advice — please read a fund's Scheme Information Document and consider consulting a SEBI-registered investment adviser before investing.

How to Start a SIP in India — Step by Step

1. Complete one-time KYC using your PAN and Aadhaar through any SEBI-registered AMC, RTA (CAMS/KFintech) or investment platform.

2. Choose a fund category matched to your goal and time horizon — large-cap, flexi-cap, index, or hybrid funds are common starting points for long-term SIPs.

3. Prefer a Direct Plan over a Regular Plan where you're comfortable managing it yourself — the lower expense ratio compounds meaningfully over long periods.

4. Decide your instalment, frequency (monthly or daily) and, if your income is likely to grow, set up an annual step-up rather than a flat amount.

5. Set up an auto-debit mandate so your SIP runs on autopilot, and review your allocation once a year rather than reacting to short-term market moves.
